“Hi my love. I am just checking to see how you are doing. I know you try to keep everything to yourself, but a sign of life would be greatly appreciated. I love you. Even if you say, ‘Hi Dad, how are you doing?’ Talk to you, love you.” ~Dad
Everyone would love to hear a message like this on their voicemail right?
Belted out in a Haitian accent, this was the beautiful voicemail message that I received recently from my dad. It touched my heart in a way that gave me such a sense of peace, belonging and confidence that was needed right at that very moment.
As I listened to the message a few more times, it just brought a smile to my face because it was so tender, so gentle, so loving and so very comforting. It instantly reminded me of my Heavenly Father.
Sis, whatever you are going through, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be, know that your Heavenly Father still wants to hear from you-that there is a sign of life on your end. If you are like me, sometimes you may need to shut out the world and outside voices, including family and friends at times, so that you can truly hear the Lord. Whatever you do, don’t cease communication with Him.
Never stop praying. ~1 Thess. 5:17
To pray without ceasing may seem farfetched or impossible, but truly it isn’t, especially when you already know that the One who you are talking to desires to hear from you all the time. If I am honest, prayer used to really be a struggle for me for many years-until I realized that it had to be redefined for me. It simply means to have ongoing communication with the Lord throughout your day. He wants to hear about your day, your struggles, your fears, your frustrations, your upset, your thoughts, your desires-everything.
I would even venture to say, as Paul alludes to further in this same passage, that sometimes God allows (not causes) circumstances and trials to occur in our life so that we can keep the lines of communication open with Him. In fact, I have been really praying more fervently than I ever have in a long time because of this very reason. As I shared in another post, my one word is #believe this year and the prayers I have require me to believe big.
I don’t presume to know the current relationship you have with your earthly father. It may be a great one, a painful one, a distant one or a non-existent one. No matter the state of your relationship with your earthly father, know that your Heavenly Father wants to hear from you.
Imagine Him calling you on the phone and leaving you a voicemail message like the one above. He may be trying to reach you just to check in with you and see how you are doing. He doesn’t want you to keep everything to yourself, but desires for you to show some signs of life.
Let Him hear from you today, Daughter. He desires to hear your voice and always will, even if you don’t have much to say, but ‘Hi Dad, how are You doing?”
