Go and shout this message to Jerusalem. This is what the Lord says: “I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness.
~Jeremiah 2:2 NLT
I came across this scripture several months back when a friend and I decided to do a 30-day devotional together.
Well, in one of her responses to the devotional for that day where this scripture was found, she said something that really had me thinking:
How is it that I’ve already let things go dull with God when He has no competitor for my heart as yet?!
Whew!
Can you say convicting?
This is exactly how I felt.
There have been times when I carelessly gave my heart away to competitors that didn’t deserve it and along with the dullness came a lot of pain. I share more about it here.
There have also been times in my life, where although there was no competitor for my heart, I allowed my heart to grow dull for the Lord anyway.
And truthfully speaking, I think the latter is even more dangerous.
Have you been there?
As I pondered this some more, I found myself asking these questions:
How eager are we to please the Lord?
Are we eager enough that we would follow Him through the wilderness?
Are we eager enough to follow Him to a barren wilderness?
Have we forgotten our first love?
In the midst of waiting, have we lost that zeal and passion we once had to please the Lord and follow Him…anywhere?
Perhaps we never quite got there.
It starts there and is a sure sign that our hearts will grow dull for Him.
Wherever you may be today sis, remember it’s not too late to ask the Lord to fan the flame in your heart again and to keep it burning for Him, even while you wait.
Prayer
Ignite in us a fire and such a passion for you Lord that we would follow you anywhere. We know that as long as You are there, we are safe and covered.
