When I read and think about this scripture, it saddens me to think of so many I know who have merely stop at the accepting part, believing that this is all there is to asking Jesus into your heart.
They say yes to Jesus, content to be able to say ‘I am now on my way to heaven’, but then never truly start following Him.
Following Jesus means letting our roots grow down deep into Him and making sure our lives are being built on Him.
It means:
It is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me.” (Gal. 2:20, NLT)
It means that I don’t make decisions based on what I want to do, but I consult with my Heavenly Father BEFORE every decision I make to see what He says about it and to find out if it is even part of the good plan and future He has for me (Jer. 29:11).
It means I am not my own anymore. I no longer belong to me, but I belong to Jesus. (1 Cor 6. 19)
Here’s the beautiful thing about these two verses above: if I don’t stop at just “accepting” Jesus, but continue to follow Him, my faith will grow strong and I will be overflowing with thankfulness!
Yes y’all, He is just that good!
There is so much more to our walk and relationship with Christ than going to heaven. He desires for us to become His best right now, even while waiting and to enjoy the best relationship right now-with Him.
Reflection:
As you meditate on this scripture this week, think about one way you can grow deeper in Christ and one way you can build your life on Him.
