The Enemy Has Nothing On You: 3 Keys To Praying Powerful And Effective Prayers

Have you ever felt like your prayers aren’t effective or powerful enough?

Perhaps, even while you are waiting, you may feel like your prayers aren’t being heard or reaching anywhere, let alone God’s ears.

Lately, the Lord through His Holy Spirit, has really given me new lenses when I read His Word.

It’s almost like instantly, as soon as I hear a lie from the pit of hell, which in times past I have simply adopted as my own negative way of thinking, the Holy Spirit combats that with the Word of God.

The thoughts don’t even have any time to sit or marinate in my mind.

It’s actually pretty neat.

One of those moments happened a few weeks ago when I was feeling like a hopeless, discouraged single.

Last week it has been related to prayer, an area the enemy has fought me hard on for several years.

I had been having thoughts that my prayers aren’t effective or powerful enough to affect and pierce the kingdom of darkness.

Now, seeing this typed out, it’s easy to see that this is a lie from satan himself. It’s a tactic he uses to keep God’s children from praying at all.

Sis, I want to let you in on a little secret. (You may even know it already.)

Check out what our brothers Paul and James say here:

…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. ~ Philippians 2:10, NLT

You believe that God is one; you do well [to believe that]. The demons also believe [that], and shudder and bristle [in awe-filled terror–they have seen His wrath]! ~ James 2:19, AMP

This is what the Holy Sprit instantly reminded me of and this is one of the keys to powerful and effective prayer.

What does that tell me?

At the mere mention of His name, Jesus, it causes demons to tremble and shudder in fear.

It makes me think of the scene in The Lion King, one of my favorite movies of all time, where the hyenas are talking and one of them says Simba’s father’s name. They associate his name with power.

The other hyena says, “Musfasa. Say it again,” and they are trembling (in jest) at the mention of his name.

So it is when we say the name Jesus. Demons shudder at His name because it is that powerful.

I will be the first to admit that sometimes, I am at a lost for words when it comes time to pray.

Maybe you can relate.

But I have found that it isn’t about coming to Him with fancy words or trying to sound pious or eloquent.

The name of Jesus, in and of itself is powerful. So start there.

And you know what’s even more dope? (Do they use this word anymore?)

The Holy Spirit is right there with us, praying for and with us, what God’s will is for us.

You don’t enter into prayer alone.

You have a Helper, your own personal Prayer Partner. He helps us when we don’t know what to say and He can pray through us.

This is a second key to powerful and effective prayer.

In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs andgroanings too deep for words. ~Romans 8:26, AMP

Sometimes, you may not have the words to pray.

Guess what?

Use God’s!

This is a third key to powerful and effective prayer.

In fact, He gave them to us for us to use.

It’s one of the most powerful weapons we can ever employ. This is why it is so important to know the Word of God and hide it in our hearts (Psalm 119:11).

It’s our sword against the enemy (Ephesians 6:17) and it happens to be the very same (and only) weapon Jesus used to combat the devil in the wilderness.

The enemy has nothing on you (or me) when you implement these 3 keys to praying powerful and effective prayers:

  1. Call on the name of Jesus often in prayer. (End your prayers, In Jesus’ name or in the name of Jesus.)
  2. Remember that the Holy Spirit is present with you in prayer. (Pray in the Spirit as often as you can. He is our personal Prayer Partner.)
  3. Pray God’s Word. (He reminds us that His Word, when sent out, can’t return back to Him void [Isaiah 55: 11] so use it often!)

Please share below any other keys or tips for praying effectively and powerfully.  I would love to read them and use them!
