Encouragement/Devotional, Growth, Lifestyle, Recommended Resources & Books

This issue has been settled

Do I have any encouragers out here? Perhaps, you are in need of some encouragement right now.

If so, then keep reading.

Truthfully, we all need a good dose of genuine encouragement every now and then (or more often sometimes), especially if:

  • You are a bit worn and weary right now.
  • You may be feeling somewhat inadequate or unsure in this season of waiting, or while you are pursuing your goals, dreams and purpose.
  • You are in the throes of a strained relationship with a loved one and are desperately trying to figure out how to pursue healing and move forward.
  • God has been gently taping you on the shoulder to address an area of your life that you may have been avoiding.
  • You feel like you should be further along in your life and the Lord’s timeline is way behind schedule.

Even if you don’t fit any of the above, I pray this one sentence will encourage you. May it be your reminder and the one thing you tell yourself every day of your life moving forward, no matter what life brings your way, while you are waiting.

The issue of your value is settled at the cross.

Soul Care by Rob Reimer, pg 59.

Take a minute to really let that sentence sink in. As you consider any or all of the issues you have faced in your life up until this point, consider this truth and let it penetrate the deepest places of your heart and soul.

I have personally had to repeat this sentence to myself a lot lately, and several times yesterday, after not receiving the response I had hoped for a new endeavor I am embarking on. The fear of rejection, inadequacy, and negative self-talk that is all too familiar to me reared its ugly head and was unrelenting. I had to ask myself why had I allowed this issue of my value to be determined by those just like me, who, standing at the foot of the Cross, were in need of the same grace and mercy I stand in need of daily?

As I have allowed the Lord access to parts of my heart that I had assumed were already His, He has been relentless in helping me to grab a hold of this truth and my true value. The tool He used this time was a book that I highly recommend, Soul Care: 7 Transformational Principles For A Healthy Soul by Rob Reimer. It was given to me by a close friend who has been a blessing in my life in many ways. She is a part of the community that has contributed to my wholeness and growth in Christ. This has led to much healing for me over the years.

Let me forewarn you: this is not a book that you can or should rush through, if you really desire to care for your soul. Since soul care is a lifelong process, right along with sanctification, it is one of those books that you will refer back to often throughout different seasons in your life.

As I began reading, I started wondering, why wasn’t the care of the soul more readily and frequently discussed in our churches? It is one of the most important things one should be continously working on the minute he/she says “Yes” to Jesus. Honestly, the condition of one’s soul, whether healthy or unhealthy, is crucial to not just living, but living the more abundant life right now here on earth, that Jesus died to give us. Neglecting the soul will not only affect one’s ability to wait well, but will most likely cause one to continue battling with the issue of his/her value.

Dr. Reimer, who is also a pastor, addresses these 7 principles: securing your identity, repentance, breaking family sin patterns, forgiving others, healing wounds, overcoming fears, and deliverance along with deep heart work exercises and spiritual action steps to work through each principle. He also provides major revelations, power packed truths from scripture and personal stories as he shares how he navigated through his own soul work. Not coincidentally, he starts out with the issue of one’s value, i.e. his/her identity, as being the true foundation upon which one’s soul should rest upon.

While you are waiting, why not take this time to become your best right now by caring for not only your body, but your soul? Working on this vital part of your being will help you to be in the best place mentally, emotionally and spiritually to receive what you are waiting for well.

May this settled issue of your value be a truth you continue to embrace over and over, as you are waiting, and every time you are battling thoughts of fear, rejection, inadeqaucy, failure, the opinions of others or anything that challenges who you are or the God who died for you.

Then the Lord God made a woman.
