Have you ever been picked for a team growing up, for example, like kickball or a game you used to play outside during recess? (If you have no idea what recess is, you may be too young! It’s a block of time during the school day, usually after lunch, for school age children to run outside and play in order to expend some energy before going back to class.)
Have you ever been the one who wasn’t picked, was picked last or God forbid, overlooked altogether? Perhaps it may have been because you weren’t the fastest runner. Maybe you did something to cause the last team you were on to lose and everyone remembered? As a result, they decided that they wouldn’t choose you again.
Sadly, I have been a part of all the above groups. Yet, I am so thankful that in God’s Kingdom, there is absolutely nothing I could do that would disqualify me. I have been handpicked by Him and so have you!
You didn’t choose me. I chose you.
John 15:16, NLT
The Greek word for choose used in this verse means “to choose” and “out from”, essentially meaning, to pick, single out, and to choose out. Another word we think of in our English language could be handpicked. He didn’t just choose us, but we were carefully selected out. Before we even knew Him, and while we were dead spiritually (still sinners), rejecting God and oblivious to Him, He were chosen by Him.
He knew about our past and He still handpicked us. He knows about our present and He is in our future. He knows every lie we have ever told, every wrong thing we have ever done, every harsh thing we have ever spoken, etc. He knows everything we have yet to discover we may knowingly or unknowingly do that would dishonor Him. Yet, He still made choice of you and me.
May you rejoice in this truth today and don’t allow the enemy to sell you the lie that you have been disqualified, overlooked or forgotten, especially while you wait.
Genesis 2:22, NLT
