The type of faith you need

Anybody ever suffer from heartburn or indigestion? It’s been said that one of the natural remedies for it is to have a teaspoon of mustard which helps to neutralize the acid in your stomach. I remembered this the other night when I woke up with horrible indigestion and it seemed to help. Standing there in my kitchen, with the refrigerator door open as my only source of light, I grabbed a teaspoon and proceeded to add some mustard to it and stick it in my mouth. For anyone who has experienced heartburn, you know how desperately you want relief from the uncomfortable feeling. After I digested some of it, I heard the Holy Spirit ever so gently tell me to turn over the bottle and look at the ingredients. As I was turning the bottle of mustard over to read the ingredients, I laughed out loud to myself. The third ingredient in my bottle of mustard was mustard seed. This may not seem funny at first, but come along on this ride as I hope to encourage you.

You see the Lord has been talking to me about mustard seeds all week. I am in a season of extreme stretching in my faith as it relates to several areas of my life and if I am honest, I do NOT like it. I told the Lord this very frankly one day last week.

Me: Lord, I would much rather not have to go through this process. I don’t want to do this. I don’t like it.

The Lord: But I love you.

The end. Lol

Now, while I didn’t particularly care for that answer, because I know His character enough, I know that it was ultimately for my benefit. Fast forward later on that week, I had a conversation with a close friend who is helping me plan an event that the Lord laid on my heart to do this year–another area He is stretching me in my faith–and Holy Spirit reminded me once again of mustard seeds. Wouldn’t you know, right there in that car, Holy Spirit reminded me that I had this visual reminder in my car for several years. As I pulled it out, I thought to myself Wow! The mustard seed is so small and yet, Jesus calls us to have faith like this is in Matthew 17:20.

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

Matthew 17:20, ESV

Did you catch what Jesus said there? He said faith like a grain of mustard seed. You know how tiny one grain is?! Almost smaller than a pencil point! Now as if I didn’t need another reminder,
Here comes Holy Spirit again repeating the same message to me twice in one day…through another friend who had no idea what God and I had been talking about.

But God knew. He knew I needed to be reminded AGAIN and AGAIN. I open up my #elijahbiblestudy, (which I am behind but really I am right on time!) and sure enough, there is a scripture talking about…

You guessed it.

Mustard seed faith and impossibility.

Mustard seed faith that can move mountains. All I could do was laugh again. Three times, same message, in the span of 2 days!! The incident with the mustard bottle was in fact my fourth reminder.

A coincidence?! I think not! God is speaking and Father, I am listening!

So I want to ask sis:

What do you need to BELIEVE God for in this season?

What seems IMPOSSIBLE?

What looks like it will NEVER happen?

What appears to be HOPELESS right now?

Where does it seem like time is RUNNING OUT?

I DOUBLE DOG DARE you to believe anyway. No matter how hopeless, impossible, unusual, crazy, foolish, or unheard of it may look like, I challenge you to let God stretch your faith. Let Him BE God and exercise your mustard seed faith to move those mountains. God’s got you! He’s faithful like that!

This

Can grow into that!

But before you go…

***Tomorrow is not promised. Today is all we have. If you are reading this and haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior, would you consider doing so right now? Jesus died so He could have a personal relationship with you and so that one day, when you leave this earth, you can spend eternity with Him. You can say a prayer similar to this:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. You showed Your great love for me, while I was in my sinful state, by sending Jesus Christ to die for me. Today, right now, I declare that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. Please enter into my heart, Lord Jesus, forgive me of all of my sins, and seal me with Your Holy Spirit. I choose this day to live for You, all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you said this prayer (or something similar) and you truly meant it, welcome to the family of God! Angels in heaven are rejoicing with you on the best decision you will ever make in life, and so am I! Then the Lord God made a woman
